At the end of the millennium a lot of importance was given to the campaign against child labour. The last time there was hope for change was at the turn of the last century, during the campaign to get US children out of factories.
Brasil,the South America’s largest, richest and most heavily populated country, exports everything from shoes to orange juice to the U.S.A,its largest market.Yet,for all its riches, Brazil also has enormous problems;76% of the population lives in urban areas. in the countryside millions of workers work as day labourers. Among them are badly-paid children under 14 who work illegally.
Parliament members denounced Nike’s involvement with child labour, and asked the Brazilian government to cancel the sponsorship contract signed with that company. It means that the Brazilian soccer team wouldn’t use Nike’s symbol on their T-shirt or any other Sports material until the company stopped the exploitation of children .According to the International labour Organization, there are 250 million working children around the world.3.8 of them are from Brazil.
Brazil has been working with UNICEF and the International labour Organization to eradicate child labour, which has become a national issue. The Municipal child foundation programme is designed for children working on sugar-cane plantations under hazardous conditions, or for those about to start working in such .The project has managed to enrol 330 children in public schools, provides them with additional educational activities and food, and helped transport them to the local public health posts for medical and dental care’s a result of the project, employers began banning children from their fields.
